The GR 223 or as it is commonly known, the “sentier des douaniers” (customs officer’s trail) is a hiking trail that crosses through Cotentin, from the beach in Deneville to Utah Beach. This 300-km winding trail was used by customs officers to monitor the coastline, in an effort to prevent or limit smuggling with the Channel Islands, until the beginning of the 20th century.

Whether you are an experienced walker or not, you are in for surprise upon surprise along this trail. From cove to cove, and from headland to headland, you’ll love the diversity and beauty of the landscapes.

Sometimes steep, sometimes hilly, this footpath is surprisingly varied and the contrasting landscapes are superb. The lush natural environment provides walkers along this path with some wonderful shadows, lights, colours and scents. This is an unmissable experience!
