An open-air history book

On this peninsula full of the treasures of the Second World War, the Airship Hangar in Écausseville, not far from Sainte-Mère-Eglise, is an intriguing place. This surprising building is listed as a historic monument, is open to the public, and is an incredible construction from the First World War. It was used to shelter the aircrafts used by the French Navy. These strange contraptions were used to monitor the naval convoys offshore in the English Channel. They were then abandoned in 1936.

One-of-a-kind in Europe

This impressive hangar is 31 metres high and 150 metres long and is the last remaining one of the 12 airship construction centres used by the French Navy.

Experience something unique and fly with an "Aéroplume" in Ecausseville

Aéroplume

An “aéroplume” is a small balloon aircraft that you can fly with in a horizontal position in a harness, underneath a helium balloon. Take to the skies and fly through the air inside the Airship Hangar, just using your arms to guide you.
