Cotentin is a garden, just waiting to be explored!
There is a unique microclimate on this peninsula, thanks to the effects of the Gulf Stream. Everything is always green here, and you’ll be surprised by the sheer variety of plant species, some of which are even exotic. The gardeners and horticulturists here have taken full advantage of these benefits. There are many castle gardens and grounds that are open to visitors: the Jardin du Presbytère de Brucheville, the Jardin botanique du Château de Vauville, the gardens in tribute to Jacques Prévert in Saint Germain des Vaux, the grounds of the Chateau des Ravalet in Cherbourg.
Please note that there are botanical events organised here such as “Presqu’île en fleurs”, an event held every 2 years in the grounds of the Château des Ravalet in Tourlaville or the Plantes et Saveurs d’automne fair in Omonville La Rogue, in La Hague, in the grounds of the Manoir du Tourp. These events are the perfect occasion to meet the producers-exhibitors , discover their collections and talk to them and ask for advice, between passionate professionals and amateur gardeners.
There is a rather unique event in Cotentin, that brings together the worlds of art and gardens: Campagn’Art is held in June every year. For the occasion, Fermanville is transformed into an artist’s village: gardens and courtyards open their gates to welcome around one hundred exhibitors, including both professionals and amateurs, who have come to present their creations: paintings, sculptures, Street Art, ceramics, pottery, photographs, as well as musical entertainment, parades, theatre performances, temporary tattoos, etc.
