Théâtre à l'Italienne Historic sites and monuments CHERBOURG-EN-COTENTIN

« The Golden Theater » : This is how the people who lived in Cherbourg called it when they were finally able to admire the outer- and inner raffinement of their brand new theater, in 1882.
This magnificent italian theater is one of the three stages that are at the disposal of the Trident, the national stage of Cherbourg-Octeville, for the staging of plays, dance shows or concerts. The stairway, the ceiling painted by Georges Clairin, the caryatids and other statuary art elements testify of the sophistication of the building which is listed as a historic monument since 1984. Renovated, it takes advantage of an extraordinary acoustic, has found its downstages again and is accessible to disabled person.
