Gourmet delights

After a day out at sea or a walk through the Parc des Marais, why not treat yourself by stopping by one of the local bakeries to taste the “financiers” (little almond cakes) in Sortosville-en-Beaumont, not far from Barneville-Carteret, or some of the delicious biscuits made at the Biscuiterie de Quinéville or in Sainte-Mère-Eglise.

On the east coast of Cotentin, stop by the Epicerie Gosselin in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue for some great local products, not-to-mention the famous brioche from the village of Vaast. Other sweet pastries such as the “grévillais”, in Gréville-Hague, hometown of French painter Jean-François Millet, go perfectly with a cup of Cidre Cotentin produced at the cider houses of Cotentin.

The “terroir” of the peninsula is also ideal for cattle breeding. The lamb of La Hague, also known as “roussin” is very well-known. Poultry, vegetables (cauliflower, carrots, leeks, etc.) and fruit (apples, pears, strawberries, etc.) are also popular specialities of Cotentin. The products of the farm (butter, yoghurts, milk and cream) can be found at the restaurants, on the market stalls, or directly at the farms or workshops.

The fish and seafood of Cotentin is caught just off the coasts of the peninsula and can be tasted at the restaurants, bought directly from the fishmonger’s of Cotentin, or on the market stalls.
