Maritime heritage
There are some superb sights along the Cotentin coastlines: atypical ports such as Port Racine, the smallest port in France, lighthouses, such as the majestic Phare de Gatteville, towers, namely the Vauban tower on Tatihou Island, semaphores, forts, piers and seawalls, especially Cherbourg-en-Cotentin which protects the biggest artificial harbour in Europe, to explore from the sea, seawalls, redoubts, walls, huts, etc. All these constructions are evidence of Cotentin’s rich maritime history and of the expert skills of the builders back then.
